Life After CRL

Life After CRL

The Life After CRL series highlights success stories from CRLs and shows how they implemented what they have learned into their work. CRL is aimed at addressing the root causes of the high failure rate of technical implementations. By showing the benefits of being a CRL, we hope that it will inspire others to join this illustrious group.

Jonathan David's Story

I started my reliability journey on December 12th, 2013, when I sat in on the CMRP certification program in my home country of Nigeria. It was my first actual taste of reliability despite being in the maintenance profession for eight years, working in various industries that include: manufacturing, renewable energy, and oil & gas. After that initial encounter, I hungered for more knowledge. Then somehow fate caused my path to cross with that of Terrence O’Hanlon via LinkedIn. He encouraged me to become a CRL. Eight months later, I got that opportunity at an ARMS Reliability conference in Austin, Texas. The impact of that leadership training, as well as the knowledge gained from both the SMRP and ARMS Reliability conferences, completely overturned my thinking on reliability and asset management.

After becoming a CRL, there has been no turning back. My dream is to influence maintenance and reliability professionals in Africa to work at the highest levels, thus strengthening industries that affect the daily lives of the common person. For me, reliability is a tool for driving personal, organizational, community, national, and transnational growth. The key to this growth lies in the hands of maintenance and reliability professionals like me. This vision led to the founding of The Maintenance Institute Africa, which has served as a tool for spreading this message. I am happy to say that in our 16 months of existence, we have had webinars, breakfast meetings, trainings, and bulletins bearing our message. We have reached over 5,000 professionals through various channels. Most recently, we broke ground by hosting the 1st Africa Maintenance and Reliability Conference in Nigeria.

We are already changing the face of the continent and, I dare say, we are succeeding at our goal. All we do is simply lead the way and provide the platforms for maintenance and reliability professionals to CONNECT, SHARE knowledge, and create opportunities for GROWTH. And it all started with having a go at the CRL certification. Thanks to our friends from Reliabilityweb.com and AMP for the great support.
