I have heard that some people tone down the asset vibration by adding weights on the coupling rather than adding them to the impeller directly as it would be mighty difficult in case of pumps.... will it work and how? what's the procedure?

Hello to everybody, We have 6 ball mills in a cupper concentrator plant. These mills suport over two pad bearings (fixed and floating) that are lubricated with high pressure oil. Every mill has a lubrication room with two oil modules, one for each pad and works with high pressure Rickemeir gear pumps. Hello, I have big concern because I've been taking vibration measurements on a hydraulic pump that drives three hydraulic motors for our tailing thickener drive system. We have 4 of these thickeners and the vibration level in horizontal direction on these pumps are likely 3 mm/s. But one of them has 7.5 mm/s purely at running speed. I was suspecting of the coupling but waveform doesn't show a specific coupling wear/damage signature. I would apreciate your help and suggestions.   Greetings

Vertical pump vibration when suction pressure fast reduces

Does pump vibration increase when suction pressure fast drop? Our 3300KW vertical pump got trip by inlet chamber level low. Water level of the chamber where suction pipe locates was decrease from 7200mm to 5800mm in 3 minutes, pump trip at 6250mm as our trip logic. Normally the pump vibration start increasing when water level decrease slowly to less than 7000mm, but in this case no vibration increase except pump shut down spike.

Greetings, as leak is not from main casing or it's connected nozzles, no need for hydrotest of the casing. for the joint repir, if welding is done, X-ray and NDT is required. later after installation, service test is required.

Thanks for the responses it is a centrifugal pump based on API-610. The gasket is made of Teflon. The question is, should the pump be tested on same pressure as the piping system has been qualified or just a leak check will be fine? For example, if the system was qualified on 10bar, should we give 10bar hydrostatic test to the pump or not? Regards

Unless the stages have different number of impeller vanes, I do not believe the 3 stages matters. Based on data provided I would assume 7 vanes on each impeller? Looking closely at your posted spectra, around 150Hz, notice the noise floor is elevated in that region, it is present in all three plots. This typically indicates a natural frequency is present at that frequency range, do all your other bearing locations show this? Please post ALL vibration spectra, preferably in a multiple point...

buenas tardes: por lo regular los rodamientos NU no se utilizan para acoplamientos directos. son mayormente utilizados para transmisiones por bandas. por eso es necesario operar por un tiempo prolongado hasta que el equipo se caliente y los rodillos reduzcan su claro con la pista externa. por otro lado las frecuencias de paso de alabes, puede varia si tu bomba tiene difusor. tienes que checar el centrado de tu eje por posible recirculacion.

good afternoon: usually the NU bearings are not used for direct links. They are mostly used for transmissions bands. so it is necessary to operate for an extended until the equipment is hot and rollers reduce their course with the external track. on the other hand the blade passing frequencies, may vary if your pump has diffuser. you have to check the centering of your axis for possible recirculation.

Can you provide a multiple point waterfall, include HVA directions, at each bearing location on the gearbox and pump, if you can get the motor in there also that would help. 18 points maximum allowed in AMS software Resolution of your data is not sufficient enough to determine what frequencies are present, can you take a set of velocity readings on this machine with a 6000 cpm fmax, 1600 LOR, 4 avgs, 50% overlap. Also collect peakvue with 60,000 fmax, 1600 LOR, 500hz and 1000hz filters, 1...

It sounds like these are new (recently commissioned) equipment but with very high vibration. Despite the cause, I would recommend to involve the supplier/vendor/manufacturer/contractor responsible based on the contractual details. On the analysis side, it might be useful to take high resolution and high frequency vibration. High resolution plots may exhibit important components near the GMF. Shurafa, Thank you very much for your reply. Well, we have already contacted Polysius for further information about these pumps problem. We are waiting for their response. These mills have been working for 6 months and all our measurements have been trended with a 1000 hz 6400 lor even with pump vibration points. So if my electric motor turns at 1780 RPM and the gear pump has 11 teeth, do you suggest a 300000 CPM fmax with high resolution ? About time behavior there isn't a significant...

First of all sorry for the late response; I could only make to the pump yesterday. Please find below the required information 1. I have attached multiple point waterfall for all the points except Peakvue plots. 2. I have attached different plot for the Pump with better resolution as required. 3. Two readings of Peakvue also attached. 4. Pump was completely replaced with an overhauled one, elbow is part of pipe and we didn’t replaced it. 5. Response definitely looks like resonant energy. Have you checked all of the supporting piping connections and supports to ensure they ? I don't suspect a flow condition because the axial direction and vertical directions look OK. Check any supports that would affect horizontal stiffness. Ron Brook

In that case the CSI Function of Bump Test "Equipment Running" will be on any help? Actually as discussed earlier and can be seen in the above attachment of Pump general drawing, there is no separate support for the pump, it's just directly bolted to the flange on the elbow. However the suction 86" line which is coming from a Caustic crystallizer must have some supports (which am not very aware of). However as mentioned earlier this problem started after replacing the complete pump in Plant...

look like, that cavitation problem due to flow recirculation inside of pump. comparing to your waterfall that second peak frequency already exist before overhaul and after overhaul become higher. perhaps you can check operation. i assume pump discharge pressure increasing due to restriction at discharge line that cause pump internal recirculation. I think your spectral data indicates you have two problems that were more likely caused by maintenance actions of replacing the pump. The first problem is the vibration at essentially one half shaft speed that may be caused by impeller rub condition. My understanding is that this pump design does not have an impeller wear ring like a centrifugal pump. The impeller vane tip clearance is critical, so a rub could occur if the shaft is not correctly centered in the housing. The second vibration...

Most often, the cause of high motor current is related to the pump and fluid system. The motor tries to deliver what the pump demands. If you want to rule out the motor, some things you might check (most productive to least productive): check all three phase currents to see if they are balanced. Double check machine is not seeing abnormal voltage. Current signature analysis (longshot).

Most designs require the baseplate grouted to the concrete below. In that case, voids weaken the support. There are a lot of ways to mount machines though.... maybe you can post a photo.
