Hi everyone, So I have a high vibration issue in an horizontal induction motor with sleeve bearings (coupled to a BFW pump) which is 3.5 MW and provided with proximity probes. The vibration amplitude is very much less than the alarm limits but are in an increasing trend which is my concern. I have a query regarding the shaft centerline plot. Now let us say the bearing clearance is 0.2 mm. Now during a start-up (or a coast down) I was looking at a shaft centerline plot and the vertical axis...

tilting pad design

Hi friends As we know there are instructions and limits in tilting pad journal bearing. I know it's for Babbitt side (or side of rotating shaft) but I don't know anything about bottom side the side lead on cover or housing bearing. Do you know any information about it's design law's.

lubrication oil ring issue in Sleeve bearing Pump

Hi all, we had issue with sleeve bearing failure, the issue began with high temperature until the babbitt failed, we suspect the oil ring is very heavy. Please, Can you share experience in this kind of problem.. *how can we know if the oil ring was bad selected? *diameter of shaft is 2,6 inch, rpm= 3600

I see exactly the same question posted by Nagesh at the other vibration board so this is the same reply I left there. What you say can happen and a combination of the direct orbit (properly scaled) and overlayed on the shaft centerline plot can portray the picture (example attached). But I would not make the assumption that damage is necessarily occuring without looking at some further data. Other data should support the conclusion and it appears this may not be the case. I should have mentioned that one major issue with shaft centerline data acquired from a cold start is alignment changes due to thermal effects will also likely occur.

Dear Members of forum, Multi stage pump, for Boiler feed water pumps, had problem with high temperature in IB bearing , one of the hypothesis was Lubrication issue due to lubrication oil ring. high temperature en journal bearings may be caused by: excessive radial force; shaft internal eccentricity vs. pump casing, misalignment , eccentric Bearing housing. lubrication issue: Oil ring not circular ( ovality in ring), not good viscosity of oil, the oil ring not turn, low oil level, oil ring...

Have you checked the quality of oil yet? from your pictures, it look like oil is not good with water contamination. I have a similar case, but the root cause is due to water entered into oil cup during raining.

Thanks NGO for your comments the issue was sorve out, and excessive radial force caused by bearing box eccentric was reduced, after new dowel pin was placed with acceptable concentricity, no more high temperature was reached. Regards
