I recently took the intermediate vibration analysis (cat 2) training at Emerson/CSI, and passed the exam, and was wondering if all certifications were equal. Emersons exam is ISO compliant, but is it equal to an ISO compliant certification from say Vibe Institute?  A coworker of mine who has certified through both says that Vibe Institute is the only internationally recognized certification there is. I have read that Emerson/Mobius/Vibe Institute are all ISO certified, so where is the difference?

Are you planning to work internationally? Probably not, but you never know?

What Cat 2 certification did you earn?  Is it recognized internationally?  Does your employer recognize it? Emerson/CSI Cat 2 ISO Exam passed/Yes

Why did you get certified?  Has it improved your work? To gain more knowledge and to have a better understanding about vibration analysis/ Yes, it has greatly improved my work.

Back to the question at hand though, are all ISO certifications equal in the eyes of industry?

Interesting, the whole ASNT certification process is still a mystery to me. I read that they are the American representatives for ISO. So, that still leaves the question, are Vibe Institute, Mobius, and Emerson equal in the eyes of worldwide industry or is Vibe Institute the go to certification for Vibration Anslysis. When I certified at Emerson they said that ISO dictates the test material and questions. If that is indeed the case, wouldn't all ISO accredited training programs be equal? I would like to know, so that I don't go through unnecessary training and time that could be spent on other training.

To be recognized by ISO, companies have to pay big money. It's why a lot of companies will use ISO standards but don't offer an official ISO certification.

As far as I know only Mobius and Vibration Institute offer the official ISO certification in North America.
