The term "white spirit" is typically referring to the mineral spirits available at paint stores, although in the industrial environment I think it can be purchased in larger size containers and also at a higher purity level, which might be desired. I seem to remember having also used a product called mineral turpentine a long time back. Many of the products used years ago have been declared carcinogenic over the passage of time so investigate the legal and safety requirements prior to making your choice.
