For the Emerson-CSI PeakVue method only one spectral average is taken, and the peak-to-peak value from a single waveform is trended. Most other Demodulation methods use linear spectrum averaging and trend overall (RMS) value. In general, if you are looking for periodic frequencies in spectrum (FFT), then use 1 to 8 averages. If you are interested in accurate broadband spectrum levels for friction and lubrication, then consider about 8 to 16 linear averages. I would expect your analyzer or PC software manual would make specific recommendations for your question.
