Well it was done in the 80Β΄s on 450MW machines here. Largest I done was a empty roll with just a little paper hitting a full size calender, my friend once hit a house with a bunch of trees he temporarily borrowed from a hauler passing and the most spectacular I heard of, a 30 s burn time rocket motor tied to a bridge... You can also do shaker test. I have done that on end windings on that size 450MW machines with a larger size pneumatic that is affordable and there are hydraulic that maybe can be rented somewhere. Yes, you need to adjust the tools to the task and if the resonance is undamped it may show, if not it may not be so much of a problem. So if you need the information it is there it just depends on what you need it for and how much effort you are prepared to put into it. Olov

I don't know where I got it and I don't know where it went but at one time I had a Solar print that listed all of the vibration frequencies of intrest in a particular gas turbine. I have never worked for a company that had a Solar turbine so I don't know how I came across it. Maybe it is available from the manufacturer. I would imagine it is a propriotary document that may be difficult to acquire.

Hi Adj,

what set up have you got?
Turbine engine, with power turbine driving a LP compressor, then a gearbox, then IP and HP compressor?

As suggested you can do a run up/coast down test with a Bode plot to get the natural frequency.

Are you experiencing start up problems due to vibration alarm trip? I'm not sure about Centaur, but some Solar turbines have issues with loose rotor spacers that cause intermittent changes in rotor balance and vibration trips.

Hi BrookieG

Have you talked about axial air compressor rotor that has loose spacers? We have problem of high 2X vibration of GP Centaur 40 split shaft Engines, this vibration is detected by both casing mounted velocity transducers in Horizontal as well as Vertical directions at aft flange of compressor of engine

BrookjeG was last on this forum in May 2014.  I suggest you start a new thread as opposed to using this thread, even though there might be similar issues.
