I know that it is possible, within SAP, to create a measuring point with upper and lower limits. Is it possible for the system to automatically generate a work order if a reading is outside of the limits, perhaps through the preventive maintenance system?

What do you mean by outside of the limits? Pls give examples.
If the limit is min 1 to max 10 and the reading is outside of these limits such as below 1 and above 10, does your question mean this scenario?

As an example - we have a pressure regulator that we have set at 100psi, and we want it controlled to 5 psi plus/minus. You can set up a measuring point with a high limit of 105 and a low limit of 95. The measurements that you record can go up and down. But, if you record a measurement above 105, or below 95, you get a warning message in SAP.
My question is - deos SAP have a process to automatically issue a Work order, based on that warning.

I think yes but your CMMS has to be connected to your DCS in which you also set the low low and high high setpoints.
At the moment, will your operators doing their daily walkarounds record and raise any work order for these kinds of process parameter deviations?
