Torptorp,

Here is a link to Vibrant Technology web page, they are a reseller of ME Scope. If you login to their site they have video tutorials and application notes.
Their manual walks you through setting up a machine, collecting data and animating.
Lots of bells and whistles to look at and not an easy software program to grasp, but continued use will make it easier to understand how to go from start to finish.
Full Spectrum Diagnostics in MN would be a good source for training on this product.

I know that you may be like me and want to "play" with the software before going to class. Why be the only kid in class that has no clue as to what the teacher is talking about?

My recommendation is to take a balancing trainer, you know the six inch grinder with an unbalanced wheel, and play with it. You know how the imbalance is supposed to look. Take your readings and see if you have the correct direction of freedom's set and if you have taken the readings in the correct direction. This will also give you an idea of how to make a machine in the drawing part also.

Torptorp,

As is true with most everything else, you can read the user's manual and make the technology physically work. However, it doesn't necessarily make you good at what you do. I agree with the training upfront to establish good practices. I would also recommend continuing to discuss methodology and findings either on this board, with carefully chosen "mentors" or both. I've seen my share of poor ODS and Modal projects (whether it was poor planning or a complete lack of understanding of diagnosing the available data) and it makes me ache. I took an ODS/Modal class with Tony back when he was still with CSI (75 years ago it seems) and I agree that he'll definately get you started in the right direction. Best of luck!

Hello Old Friend-
I too would suggest Tony. He's excellent. Also, there is another guy that I know that may be able to help.

1) You can email me - Keith F. has my email address.
2) You can come to the Vib Inst meeting this Thursday (4-26-12) and I will introduce you to the guy I know.
3) You can hire me to come and train your group on ME'scope and how to use it.

Drop me an email sometime - we can catch up.
