Hello all,

Is it possible to get a literature on cayere methods being used in hydro turbine erection? How we use it in the field may be methodology with necessary instruments be more appropriate.

Thanks & Regards

Apparently CAYERE Method is an abbreviation of German words. It may represent a unique and Patented alignment method by Alstom. I can't offer any more help on this, but please give some feedback if you find out. I have done several shaft alignment jobs on low-head hydro with mostly slant axis drive shaft arrangement using Optalign Laser-optical system.

The link at https://patents.google.com/patent/EP0658740B1/en is an European patent application concerning alignment.  If you scroll down while watching the numbered paragraphs on the right, immediately opposite paragraph #11 is a paragraph that reads

It is not essential that the level of support is perpendicular to the shaft, it is sufficient that is always found in the same angular position relative to it. The support proposed by the Abbe Cayere, perfectly meets this definition, but it requires the making of a ring in two parts perfectly adapted to the diameter of the shaft.

Having better things to do on a Saturday, I'll look over the patent application more carefully but definitely later.

I searched on Abbe Cayere alignment

"Method for checking and adjustment of the geometry of a line of axles in an hydroelectric group having a vertical axis"

From <http://www.freepatentsonline.com/EP0658740.html>

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/EP0658740.html mentions CAYERE, but is in French

Apparently Abbe was the smart mathematician and others used it for practical shaft alignment!!
