The maintenance required is going to depend on the service (light, medium, rough/corrosive), the duty cycle (intermittent, continuous, etc), and the equipment design (rolling element or plain bearings, pumps with packing or mechanical seals, vertical or horizontal motors, oil or grease lubrication, etc), so a generic guide to maintenance is all but impossible. As an earlier comment noted, start with OEM guidelines to begin with. Your next two steps should be to perform a Criticality Analysis, and then on the appropriate equipment, an RCM study to determine the best maintenance methods.
