Equipment Numbering Schemes
Registered Member Here my 10 cents I like to keep it simple, but unique for no mistakes. simple to be understood for any one in the floor to properly fill up a work request and unique to avoid acidente where the tech shutdown and repair the wrong blue weld machine on the wrong corner ou kill someone. I use alphanumeric system (2 letters and 4 number) where the 1st letter is the main function of the machine. example W =weld 2nd is the type (Tig, resistance, spot, mig etc) and the numbers will be last 3 digits... Registered Member Hi Danny, If you haven't yet found what your looking for I'd like to mention Facility One in Louisville, Kentucky. They've been around for a long time, a lot of former electricians and mechanical guys work there and they have a really impressive work order and asset management solution. The price, though not free is very competitive and they offer benefits that other CMMS's just can't. Full disclosure, I work there but I'm on the creative side not account management. Registered Member Hi Francisco, My recommendation would be - Before looking at software options, investigate and outline your business, technical and functional requirements. Fit the software options (in-house or new) into your requirements, rather than fitting your requirements within the current or new software. In theory, the business deliverable of CMMS software should be adding atleast 10% value to your existing assets, so if your assets are worth $10 Million, then the value from CMMS should be $1... Your considerations should extend to licensing, support, security, development road maps, data migration, integration with other tools, training, the cost of support and enhancements in the future. Will the existing hardware meet the minimum requirements, are there any interfaces e.g. plant for monitoring, scanners/readers for i/o activities. [ more ]

Registered Member Good luck with your CMMS efforts Jim. One thing I'd like to make you aware of based on my experience, Problem, Cause, Remedy Codes are notoriously inaccurate due to being subjectively applied based on technician experience/situational variances and generalized because too many codes are extremely cumbersome and too few are broad-based. MAPCON???
Registered Member Note: The original dates (2014) of the first post and the 2 yr span to the last reply!. In reading the reply in 2016, the take-away is that the poster was using an older CMMS version as he said. The newer MAPCON product is what the original poster is using so, as the author mentioned himself, not really a fair comparison. Maintenance Workflow
Registered Member I know I am way too late for this discuussion but I am on an eAM implementation and recently thought of this again myself. I have analyzed maintenance data for many years. I know the theory and expected result for use of the multiple notifications. I have seen people use this feature. It is a bit onerous to manage the work request / notification attachment process. [ more ]
